With so many pedal options out there, it’s hard to choose the best. Single-sided, two-sided, 4-sided – which is right for you? When it comes to a classic, single-sided road pedal, there is none better than Shimano’s Dura-Ace line.
The Dura-Ace road pedal set comes in at approximately 232g for the pedals without cleats making them the lightest pedal and cleat set among the road pedal purists (pedal and cleats come in at 271g).
Along with being the lightest, the Dura-Ace set is also easily serviceable while still keeping true to Shimano’s reputation of durability - a combination not easily achieved. Bearing adjustments and greasing can be tone with standard shop tools.
Clipping in is as smooth, too. The pedals are perfectly weighted to allow the pedals to hang in just the right position to catch the toe of the cleat. This technique might take a ride or two to get used to for those used to other pedal systems, but soon becomes one fluid motion.
What’s noticeable is the size of the pedal platform. It’s wide (65mm wide) and spreads contact out for a solid pushing platform. We notice no side to side twist or play between the pedal and “blue” 2 degrees of float cleat that is included. That’s pure power transfer.
Adjusting the entry and release tension is very easy with a tension screw. You can tighten it for a secure, locked in feeling or loosen for easy in, easy out access.
